The Bizarre Toe Cakelet

The Bizarre Toe

“Excuse me?  You want a what?”  That is a common response to many cakelet requests but this time I needed more info from the client because now she had me intrigued.
The email read something like this:

Hi Cupcake Envy!
My boyfriend is turning 25 next month and I wanted to give him a cakelet that is kind of an inside joke.  See, he’s got this thing with his foot.  His 2nd toe is WAY longer than the others.  It sticks out and we always make fun of it.  I thought it would be really cool if you could make a cakelet with a really long second toe.  I know this is kind of a strange request but do you think you can do it?

Thanks,

Leslie

Kind of a strange request?  I had to call this girl and find out more about this.  After chatting with her on the phone, I realized A. She was serious and B. She had a really good sense of humor.  She thought this would be a hilarious dessert for her strange-toed boyfriend.  I immediately agreed to do it.
I worked on that cakelet design and it raised many eyebrows in the shop which only made me smile as I sculpted this unusually long 2nd toed foot.
She was not having a big party, rather, it was just the two of them.  She didn’t need a large cake, just something small and personal.  No other dessert option could have possibly fit the bill for this request except a cakelet.  So that week, as I looked at the completed orders of flower pots and purses, there shined the foot cakelet.  It was at that moment that I was reminded of the awesomeness of cakelets.
Whatever the occasion, or theme, or bizarre inside joke shared between 2 people, what better way to celebrate than with a custom cakelet.  There’s no flower bouquet or fruit basket in the world that could even come close to telling a story like a cakelet design.
